Nikon fieldmicroscope
I used my Nikon fieldmicroscope on the Mindat Conference 2012 in Midelt. Since several collectors found it interesting, I promised to post a short artickle about it.

My microscope is called Fieldmicroscope mini (There are different versions).

I got 16100 hits when I Googled
for  Nikon fieldmicroscope so it should be easy to find a dealer near you.

It weighs only 395 grams. The optical quality is excellent (It is just as sharp as my expensive Meiji microscope), and it has a fixed 20 x magnification. I am a micromounter and systematic collector, and with this microscope I can check potentially interesting rock in the field, so that I do not carry heavy, uninteresting rocks home.

It is possible to use it handheld
, placed on a table or fastened to a photographic tripod.

It has a rotating head, and if the rock you are studying is too large to fit between the microscope head and bottom plate, you can turn the head 90 degrees. This makes it possible to study
vuggy rocks of all sizes in detail.

The Nikon Fieldmicroscope Mini is not fitted with any light. My solution to this problem is to buy a tiny
and cheap, long-lasting LED-light that can be fastened to the microscope head with mineral tack and adjusted so that the light falls on the specimen.

The microscope head can be rotated to make it compact and easy to carry
within its soft case. I remove the LED-light from the microscope head and fasten it to the bottom plate when the microscope is not in use.

The microscope comes with a practical soft case and carrying strap. It is a great buy at about US $ 450!
